How to Get Clay in Dungeon Settlers
Find Clay in Dungeon Settlers through reported Acid Slogel, Predatory Frog, and merchant sources, then fix pickup weight and plan the research for its uses.
On this page+
For Clay in Dungeon Settlers, look for Acid Slogels from Floor 3 onward, collect drops from Predatory Frogs you encounter, and check merchant stock for a larger purchase. Those enemy and shop routes come from September Early Access player reporting. In v0.4.29, also check Auto-Pickup's weight threshold if Clay drops but stays on the ground.
Where to look for Clay
| Source | Where to check | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Acid Slogel | Floor 3 onward during dungeon exploration | September gameplay report |
| Predatory Frog | Encounters along your dungeon route | Same gameplay report; no fixed floor assigned here |
| Merchant | Inspect the stock when you reach a trader | Reported purchase route; stock varies |
Treat these as acquisition routes to try in a region you can handle. The named sources were re-read October 18; their drop behavior has not been retested by this site in v0.4.29.
A short Clay run
- Read the construction or recipe that needs Clay and note the shortage.
- Prepare food, recovery, and carrying room for a run reaching the reported Slogel floors.
- Collect from relevant enemies encountered while exploring; inspect the actual loot afterward.
- At a merchant, compare available Clay, price, and your carrying capacity with the remaining shortage.
- Return once the project can be completed or the party reaches its recovery limit.
For a small shortage, gathering alongside progression avoids making a separate deep push solely for Clay. For a larger construction plan, a merchant with enough stock can shorten the gathering stage. That is a planning choice based on the sources available in your run, not a guaranteed fastest farming route.
Clay dropped, but nobody picked it up
Check the expected carrier's current load and the selected Auto-Pickup weight limit. v0.4.29 defaults to stopping at the Heavily Encumbered threshold. Free carrying room or use another carrier before rechecking the item.
If Clay is already at the settlement, inspect the destination container's free slots, item permission, and access. Resources & Camping gives the storage sequence. Building another container only helps if capacity is the actual blocker.
What to reserve Clay for
The reported uses include Kiln, Ceramics, farms, and later workstations. Open the specific project and reserve its displayed Clay cost before starting a second one.
For a Kiln, also check research: the recorded path goes through Metal Processing, which requires Wood Processing II and Bonfire. Bonfire itself needs Wooden Housing. Finding Clay will not unlock the station if those studies are unfinished. Research Tree separates the full book budget from the final node's cost.
A useful spending order is to finish the one project that unlocks your next action, then reassess. Leave speculative construction until the required station or recipe can actually use the material.
Know when to finish the trip
Normal-floor transitions now preserve dungeon stay duration and penalties. Once the shortage is covered, weigh another detour against the active stay effect, rather than assuming the next staircase resets the run.
Before leaving, confirm the Clay is carried, read any living-member warning, and collect the intended party. Use the Expedition Guide for that final check.
