Dungeon Settlers entered Steam Early Access on September 4, 2026. The latest numbered patch reviewed is v0.4.29, released October 10. You can play the first two dungeon regions, develop a settlement, recruit and equip members, research, and fight in real time with pause. Community mods already exist; official modding support and Steam Workshop integration remain development plans.

Release date and current playable scope

The release date is the start of Early Access, not version 1.0. Steam's current description says the first two regions can be played from beginning to end and lists the complete settlement-to-dungeon core loop.

Start with the Beginner Guide for an opening sequence. If a particular action is blocked, go directly to leveling, the first Research Table, or room requirements.

Which version should a guide account for?

Use Current Build & Updates for the October 10 v0.4.29 changes. In practical terms, check Auto-Pickup weight, continuing dungeon stay penalties, party departure warnings, and combat setups relying on barriers, Wave Cycle, Become Fire, or Sword Counter.

Rank 2's six-member and Rank 3's eight-member limits come from the earlier v0.4.23 patch. The store's four-person marketing text predates that change.

A guide can still contain useful older data if its scope is clear. Our Research Tree, for example, retains its source build while separately accounting for later official work fixes.

How to find existing community mods

Open Steam Community Guides and browse Modding or Configuration. At the October 18 review, the listing includes Tic's Settler Toolkit and a Free Save Editor Guide with English/Japanese support.

Choose the author's guide for the tool you intend to use, compare its supported game version and installation method, and make a copy of a save before editing it. Different tools use different methods; a community guide listing does not establish current compatibility for every tool.

These player tools are separate from official mod support. Steam's Early Access questionnaire still describes official support and Workshop integration as planned.

Roadmap and full release

Steam estimates approximately two years in Early Access and says timing may change with development and feedback. Treat that as a development estimate.

The Roadmap page preserves the September roadmap milestones and links them to the newer patch status. A roadmap feature is a plan until its release is established in an update; it should not be required by a guide to the current game.

Where to continue playing

For a party that behaves differently after updating, use Builds. For food, production, storage, and research, start with Settlement. Before a longer dungeon trip, use the Expedition Guide for carrying limits, stay duration, and return checks.
