Dungeon Settlers Food, Hunger, Mood, and Energy
Fix Dungeon Settlers hunger, Energy, Mood, and Stress: check food permissions, spoilage in storage, sleep controls, room benefits, and dungeon stay effects.
On this page+
For a hungry Dungeon Settlers member, provide accessible food they are allowed to eat; for low Energy, give them a safe opportunity to sleep. For low Mood and rising Stress, read that member's Mood modifiers and fix the named food, sleep, room, or dungeon-stay problem. In v0.4.29, also check food permissions and the storage-adjusted spoilage tooltip before assuming you have usable supplies.
Pick the right recovery action
| Symptom | Inspect | Act first |
|---|---|---|
| Hunger warning | Allowed, suitable, reachable food | Let the member eat or make an available meal |
| Low Energy | Sleep opportunity and interruptions | Rest at home or in a protected situation |
| Low Mood | Positive and negative modifiers | Address the largest actionable cause |
| Rising Stress | The Mood factors driving it | Improve the cause before adding unrelated buildings |
| Food exists but is not eaten | Permissions, condition, preference, and access | Restore a usable food source |
This separates four linked states without treating one meal or room upgrade as a cure for all of them.
Food exists, but a member stays hungry
- Select the hungry member and inspect their food-related tooltip.
- Check the available food's condition and whether consumption is permitted.
- Confirm that this member can eat that food; preferences can make a single food plan unsuitable for the whole settlement.
- Make sure the member can reach the food.
- Allow the eating action to finish, then check Hunger again.
v0.4.29 fixes missing notifications when all food consumption is prohibited and no edible food remains. Food in the base is therefore not enough by itself: inspect the permissions as well as the quantity.
The September gameplay source reports Mood penalties from unsuitable raw monster food. If raw food is creating a visible negative modifier and you have the ingredients and worker, use an unlocked cooked option instead. For the first food branch, Research Tree lists Basic Cuisine and the routes toward porridge, farming, monster cuisine, and drying.
Food spoils: read the timer in its storage context
The v0.4.29 food tooltip now reflects the preservation effect of its storage container. Inspect food in the actual storage location before deciding what will survive until the next departure.
Put accepted food in an appropriate container with space and access. If it remains outside, check storage permissions and hauling rather than calculating your stock as though everything were already preserved.
Separate today's meals from the next expedition's supplies. If a production task is set to make up to a target quantity, confirm the current target and counted stock; if you change it to continuous crafting, inspect the queue afterward. The latest patch fixes a waiting-state issue with that mode change.
Low Energy: let recovery finish
Sleep is the recovery action identified by the gameplay source. Select the member and use Prioritize Sleep in the lower-left controls. At the settlement, make sure a sleeping place is reachable and the member is not immediately redirected into another job.
Before departure, check that the intended party has actually recovered. Entering a dungeon is not a substitute for sleeping: v0.4.29 clears a carried-over sleep state on transition, which is a status fix, not an Energy refill.
Underground, compare resting with returning. If continuing stay penalties or the next encounter will exceed your recovery options, bring the party home. Resources & Camping covers the camping unlock and the distinction between recipe materials and research.
Low Mood: change the modifier that is hurting this member
Hover the member's Mood display and read the individual entries. Improve the named problem: usable food for hunger, sleep for exhaustion, an accessible recognized room for a room benefit, or a shorter dungeon run when prolonged exposure is the problem.
For room support, verify the type and tier before adding decorations. Room Upgrades explains how to find the live requirements. A facility that exists but cannot be used will not solve the same problem as a working one.
Treatment Expectation still appears after upgrading? The player reports behind our Treatment Expectation guide describe a level-linked negative modifier that remains visible while room, food, and recreation benefits offset it. Compare total Mood and the new positive entries instead of repeatedly trying to erase that single line.
Prepare the next run from the failure you saw
If hunger ended the trip, pack usable food and fix its production. If Energy ended it, allow full recovery and plan a shorter or better-supported route. If Mood deteriorated underground, account for accumulated stay time: normal-floor changes no longer reset its penalties.
Use the Expedition Guide for the full departure and return check. Keep a failed support step separate from a build problem before spending materials on replacement gear.
