Dungeon Settlers Room Types and Upgrades
Upgrade Dungeon Settlers rooms: find Game Guide requirements, fix room recognition and idle jobs, compare nine types, and follow the Merchant's Scales route.
On this page+
To upgrade a room in Dungeon Settlers, first make the game recognize the enclosed space, then satisfy the next tier's displayed requirements. Open the Game Guide, search for Rooms, and hover the room type to see its requirements. Check the missing line before spending materials: extra furniture will not repair an open perimeter or a wall-quality shortfall.
Read the exact requirements in your game
- Open the Game Guide using its on-screen control.
- Search for the room type or find the Rooms section.
- Hover the room entry to read its required size, quality, facilities, and furniture.
- Compare those conditions with the selected room's current display.
- Change the first unmet condition that blocks the tier you want, then check the room again.
This lookup procedure comes from a Steam player guide specifically about room requirements. It is useful when older tables disagree because it shows the requirements available in your installed build.
Match the room to its facility
The nine types in the recorded Early Access room references are:
| Room | Facility or object to check first | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Private Room | Sleep furniture in a fully enclosed space | Individual sleeping accommodation |
| Shared Room | Multiple Sleep items and the displayed occupancy conditions | Shared sleeping accommodation |
| Workshop | The required crafting station | General crafting |
| Arcane Workshop | The magical crafting facility listed in the room entry | Magic-related production |
| Research Lab | Research Station and the room entry | Research work |
| Temple | Wooden Goddess Statue / Level Up object and lights | Prayer and character progression |
| Dining Room | Cookery Workshop and the current room conditions | Cooking and eating support |
| Merchant Chamber | Merchant's Scales and the chamber conditions | Settlement Guild Merchant |
| Recreation Room | The required recreational facility | Recreation and Mood support |
The facility identifies the direction; the Game Guide supplies the complete conditions. For a starter Dining Room or Temple, enclose the space, place the listed facility, and read the first tier before buying higher-quality decoration. This avoids spending on a later tier while the starter room is still unrecognized.
A room is unrecognized, low-tier, or not working
These are different problems:
| Symptom | What to inspect | Useful correction |
|---|---|---|
| No intended room type appears | Perimeter, corners, door, and required facility | Close gaps and put the facility inside the enclosure |
| Correct type, but tier stays low | The next tier's size, wall/floor quality, decoration, and furniture lines | Improve the specific unmet value |
| Correct type and tier, but no work | Recipe or research selection, inputs, assigned worker, and access | Restore the production chain |
| Better bedroom, but Treatment Expectation remains | The resident's total Mood and positive modifiers | Use the Treatment guide, rather than rebuilding to erase one line |
If the missing condition is room size, change the enclosure. If it is average construction quality, check the older walls and floors as well as the newly upgraded pieces. If decoration is missing, place it inside the recognized room. A single expensive object does not automatically satisfy the other conditions.
Keep stations accessible after building walls
Before enclosing a crowded production area, leave a route to each active work position. v0.4.29 improves workers leaving completed jobs and escaping positions blocked by newly constructed walls, but usable access still matters.
If only one lab is idle, inspect its Research Station, selected node, Tech Books, and worker before enlarging the room. Research Table & Cogwheel covers the first station and Research Tree covers prerequisites. For blocked inputs or output storage, use Resources & Camping.
Where to get the Merchant's Scales
Two September Steam discussions give a matching route:
- Defeat the Region 1 Floor 5 Golem.
- Return to the former boss area, which the players describe as a Guild Camp.
- Find the Guild Merchant there and inspect the special construction item.
- Bring it back, place the Merchant's Scales, and fulfill the Merchant Chamber conditions shown in the Game Guide.
This is a player-reported acquisition route, distinct from the chamber's construction requirements. The item name comes from the independent game-data entry. Visit the post-boss camp rather than repeatedly searching the early floors for a different dungeon merchant.
Choose the next room upgrade
Upgrade the room connected to the problem you have now. If the party cannot recover, inspect sleeping and food support. If a recipe or research task is blocked, fix that station and its prerequisites before buying decorative tiers elsewhere.
After a change, check the result you needed: the correct type appears, the desired tier is reached, or the job can run. That gives the next material purchase a concrete purpose.
